The University of Wollongong is working to contain a data breach that emerged over the weekend.
The university told iTnews the breach may have affected both staff and students.
In a statement provided to iTnews, the university said it is “likely that data was accessed,” after an incident that “was detected and contained” on Sunday December 10.
The university did not identify what led to the data breach, nor how many individuals may be affected.
“We are working to investigate the cause and extent of the issue. Our normal operations are continuing as we assess any potential further impact,” it said.
“We are committed to keeping staff and students updated and informed as this situation develops.”
Regulators and authorities have been notified, the statement said, and external experts have been engaged to support the university’s effort.
