Westpac has appointed Peter Herbert as its chief transformation officer, tasked with working on the technology delivery of its Unite program.

In a statement, Westpac said Herbert will take on “responsibility for transformation across the group, including working across divisions and technology on the delivery of the business-led simplification program” as it “moves from planning to implementation.”

Efforts on Unite program ramped up late last year, with around 39 projects now underway, up from 14 initiatives in May.

Reporting to CEO Anthony Miller, Herbert will commence his role at the beginning of March.

Miller said Herbert is experienced “running major transformation projects” and “best placed to drive change across the company as we enter this next important phase for Westpac.”

For the past four months, Herbert was Westpac’s acting chief executive of business and wealth.

In this role, Herbert oversaw Westpac’s partnership with the online platform Lawpath, which offers businesses better access to affordable legal services and accounting and compliance technology solutions.

It’s expected he will continue to act as the chief executive, business and wealth officer until Paul Fowler joins in May of this year.
