Newsweek reports that as a general rule, you should change your Wi-Fi password every three months. That way, if your password is grabbed during a data breach, your network will only be vulnerable for a brief timeframe.
But there are also instances in which you should change your Wi-Fi password immediately, for instance, if you become aware of a data breach. You can keep an eye on the latest data breaches through Cybercrime Magazine and Have I Been Pwned, which lets you input your email address or password to see if it has been found among the data captured in security breaches.
Your Wi-Fi network password isn’t the only one you should change after an incident; make sure you also change passwords for any apps or websites that might have been affected, too, including your email accounts, social media sites, and banking apps and websites.
If you let a friend, guest, or neighbor use your Wi-Fi, then changing your password is a no-brainer. Although you probably trust your parents and siblings if your network password was saved on their devices and those devices fall victim to an attack, your passwords could be accessible.
Newsweek has the scoop on when and how to change your Wi-Fi password. We highly recommend that you heed their advice.
