Where and how do chief information security officers (CISOs) find new cybersecurity vendors?

Registering on vendor websites with their contact information to download white papers, reports, and other gated content? Nope. At least not according to one Fortune 500 security chief.

“There are many times where it’s early in the morning or even late at night that I’m looking at cybersecurity vendors,” says Adam Keown, CISO at Eastman, a Fortune 500 global specialty materials company with 13,000 employees in more than 100 countries.

“I’m reading articles. I am trying to find a demo on YouTube for them to give me a glimpse of what’s going on,” adds Keown, who previously spent a decade serving as a Special Agent, Cyber at the FBI.

“I want to watch the CISO Demo series (on the Cybercrime Magazine YouTube Channel) because it gives me lots of information about a specific vendor or capability or even risk that I’m trying to address in a single bite size amount of time,” he adds.

A bite size means two minutes or less, at best, for a cybersecurity company founder, CEO or thought leader to deliver their best elevator pitch.

Keown describes his process after watching a video:

“That helps me narrow down two or three vendors to talk to versus having to speak to the tens of thousand cybersecurity vendors that are out there. Then it leads me to a point where I want a longer engagement with my team so that we can ask some of those tough questions that maybe aren’t answered in the demo. And that’s when we reach out, look for contact information in the video and say, how can we have a further discussion with one of these vendors?”

CISOs are very protective of their time and selective about where they spend it. “I’m a Cybercrime Magazine subscriber because their content is both brief and meaningful,” says Keown. “The accessibility on my podcast platform or YouTube allows me to enjoy it whenever I have time.”

The 2026 Cybersecurity CMO Report from Cybersecurity Ventures dives deeper into YouTube and how it has become the new powerhouse for marketing to CISOs — as well as MSSPs and SMBs.
