Windows 10 KB5061087 update released with 13 changes and fixes

Microsoft has released the June 2025 non-security preview update for Windows 10, version 22H2, with fixes for bugs preventing the Start Menu from launching and breaking scanning features on USB multi-function printers.

Today’s optional cumulative update (KB5061087) is an optional non-security preview update that allows Windows administrators to test fixes and improvements released with the upcoming July 2025 Patch Tuesday cumulative updates.

KB5061087 addresses an issue causing scanning to fail on USB-connected multi-function printers with dual protocol interfaces and Start Menu issues causing jump lists to disappear and preventing the menu from launching after installing an update.

It also resolves a Component Object Model (COM) functionality bug behind remote COM activation failures with error 0x8001011 on Windows platforms.

To install this preview update, open the Windows Settings app, go to ‘Windows Update,’ and click ‘Check for Updates.’ Because this is an optional update, you will also be prompted to confirm if you want to install it by clicking the ‘Download and install’ link.

Windows 10 users can also install KB5061087 manually after downloading it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Once installed, this preview release will update Windows 10 22H2 systems to build 19045.6036.

The June 2025 non-security update comes with additional fixes and improvements, the most significant ones listed below:

• The version of the curl tool included in Windows is updated to v8.13.0.
• This update fixes an issue affecting the device registration in the Entra ID Windows Account Manager (WAM)plugin.
• This update fixes an issue affecting the complete removal of unused language packs and Feature on Demand (FOD) packages. This issue led to unnecessary storage use and increased Windows update installation time.
• Fixed: An issue where the system may stop responding when acknowledging an Oplock break request on resources located on SMB shares.

Users running earlier Windows 10 versions can upgrade to Windows 10 22H2 using the KB5015684 enablement package, which activates features in Windows 10 22H2 that were inactive on previous versions since they share a common core operating system with identical system files.

Microsoft says the June 2025 KB5061087 preview update is affected by a single known issue, causing CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text to look blurry or unclear when at 96 DPI (100% scaling) in Chromium-based browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Today, Redmond also revealed that home users can enroll in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program free of charge after Windows 10 expires in October if they have 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points to redeem or enable Windows Backup to sync their settings to the cloud.

Those who don’t want to use Windows Backup or don’t have enough reward points also have the option to pay $30 for a year of extended security updates.
