Microsoft has added another Windows 11 24H2 upgrade block for systems with Dirac audio improvement software due to compatibility issues breaking sound output.
This known issue only affects PCs with cridspapo.dll, and it causes applications to stop detecting audio devices connected to affected devices.
“The incompatibility relates to the software component cridspapo.dll, which is part of these devices’ audio processing software,” Microsoft said in a new update to the Windows release health dashboard.
“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, some users reported that their device’s integrated speakers, Bluetooth speakers, and Bluetooth headsets stopped functioning. They also reported that both first-party and third-party applications didn’t recognize these devices.”
Redmond has applied a safeguard hold on Windows devices with Dirac audio software to prevent this known issue from impacting more users. IT admins can find this issue under safeguard ID 54283088 in Windows Update for Business reports.
The company advises affected users not to manually update impacted PCs using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the Media Creation Tool until Dirac fixes their audio driver.
“Once the driver addressing this issue is released by the manufacturer, Microsoft will partner to offer the new driver via Windows Update to resolve this audio issue,” Microsoft added. “The safeguard hold preventing the update to version 24H2 will be lifted after this issue is resolved on end-users’ devices.”
If you’re using Windows Home or Pro editions, you can check for safeguard holds by going to Start > Settings > Windows Update and selecting “Check for Windows updates.”
If there’s a compatibility hold, you’ll see an “Upgrade to Windows 11 is on its way to your device. There is nothing that requires your attention at the moment.” message and a “Learn More” link that directs you to a website with more information on safeguards for your PC. You can also check the KB5006965 support document for more details.
