This flagship conference also served as an Oceania showcase, bringing together leading voices and practitioners from across Australia, New Zealand and the wider region.
As the Chapter marks five decades of enabling digital trust, this conference focused firmly on what comes next and how leaders are governing AI, strengthening cyber resilience, advancing privacy accountability, modernising audit and assurance, and navigating risk in an increasingly complex environment.
Sovereign AI, Speed & Direction
At the 50th ISACA Sydney Conference, Joseph Reddy shares practical insights on the rise of artificial intelligence and what “sovereign AI capability” really means for organisations.
Reddy argues that building sovereign AI isn’t about billion‑dollar technology investments. Instead, it starts with investing in people with the right skills, understanding business processes and data and then selecting the right technologies to support them.
He also cautions against blindly jumping on the AI bandwagon at any cost, referencing Geoffrey Hinton’s warning that, for the first time in history, we’ve created something potentially more intelligent than humans. With AI evolving at high speed but often without clear direction, Reddy calls for “speed with direction” and a focus on big-ticket problems, not just marginal gains.
